This was the end of an interview that Diablo Cody did for Morning Addition on NPR Friday morning. Cody wrote the screen play for the new movie Young Adult. I have my alarm set to NPR, and this is what I woke to. I thought about this all day, and how there is so much truth to this.
I've often thought of this in the past, but brushed it out of my mind because of wanting to keep up w/ those from my past - high school, or from other past areas in my life. I want to compare myself with others. I might really be self absorbed and narcissistic and I want to know that I am doing well in life; that I am accomplished and good at something. . . . What better way to do that than compare myself with others - who I don't talk to to begin with!?
I would like to think that there is a way to keep ourselves in check. I would like to think that I'm not that self absorbed or shallow that I have to look to those so far removed from my life to gain acceptance. I would like to think that I can be honest with myself and just enjoy FB as the fun social media outlet that it is and not make it my whole life. . .
The sad part is when we don't grow up and learn how to be adults, real adults who act like adult - and not teenagers in adults bodies.
Your thoughts - have you heard anything about this move? What do you think about FB and how do you keep yourself in check with using it?
You can find the whole article at npr.org in the morning addition section - heres the link
