Last week we started in a message series called 'Whats Your Status', a little play off facebook all about relationships. The first relationship - First comes Love, then comes. . . . yep, Marriage!
The Vows -
The vow of priority - Not about making your spouse number one in your life, but making God number one and your spouse number two, children number three. When you put God in first place, all other areas of your life/relationships will fall in the right order - the order God intended them to be in.
The vow of Pursue - Doing the things that put you at the alter to begin with. The little notes, flirty texts, special cards for no reasons. A meal made with love and a kitchen and dishes that were done with out asking, and with a happy heart - maybe even done together. Pursuing the one you love the way you did before you were married. Doing the little things that make marriage and your relationship grow, and special.
The vow of Partnership - Marriage takes two people, relationships take two people. Two people who both give it 100% - not a 50/50 deal, but a 100/100 deal. A united front, where you both are on the same page, both giving and taking, both making sacrifices for the other. Giving your best because Christ gave his best to us.
The vow of Purity - where secrets live intimacy dies, and where intimacy lives, secrets die. Integrity, and honesty is the key to having a pure marriage. What are you doing when no one is watching, and are you being honest with your spouse? Confiding in your spouse, not hiding from them with whats going on in your life. Keeping the lines of communication open.
Yesterday both services were closed with a vow renewal service which was really special and exciting to see all the couples who participated in that.
I've really enjoyed the first two weeks of this series, and I look forward to the next two weeks on the topic of parenting!
And just a little off topic, did anyone see the movie The Vow? I love a good sappy read like Nicholas Sparks, but I have yet to read, or go and see the movie! Any thoughts?
