On the Today show this AM they were talking about this girl - I think in FL - who was severely beaten by some other girls over a text that was sent . . . REALLY??!! This poor girl is now in the hospital, in a coma, what possible brain damage and they aren't really sure whats going to happen w/ her recovery.
As a parent now, I'm completely blown away @ the behavior other kids/teens these days! How do I keep my child safe? How do I ensure that she won't go after other people? I know, parenting, being aware of what shes doing, who her friends are, who she spends time w/ and around. Being a parent, not a friend - right? Its just scary, to see, and hear about these kids who are completely out of control.
I'm in the process of reading this parenting book called 'Kid CEO'. Amazingly this is the first parenting book I've picked up and read, but I'm really glad that I did. I've learned some things and even trying to implement some of them - some take longer to do than others : ) But just thinking about the book, an then seeing this segment on the Today show I see and realize, even now, how important it is to establish a good, solid foundation and discipline for Kaia now, not in a few years, but now.
Its hard being a parent, no matter what time you live in, now or 25 yrs ago. There are always going to be struggles and mean, bad people. It will never end. I want to be a parent that give Kaia the best tools to live today, tomorrow, and in her next 25 yrs. If I don't start now, how will she ever learn? Plus, its my job - not her friends, not her schools, not anyone else. I'm fine w/ that - it just makes it so much more real what I'm up against when I hear about things like this girl, and what happened.
