Open Mouth - Insert Foot

How many times have you done this? I think as I get older I'm getting better it - not a characteristic I was interested in having in my old age.  And so I did it once again. I managed to let my thoughts run right out of my head into my fingers and onto the screen in the great form of an email.
Even better! Not only is the person going to read what I've written, but I now its out of my control as to how the receive it. As soon as I hit 'send' I realized that I had acted a little too quickly.
So here's my advice when sending something out - or speaking - if not your 100% sure on the content.

1. Re-Read/Re-Think whatever it is that your trying to say, let it sit for a few minuets/hours/days maybe even weeks or months before you say it/ type it.

2. Is it really something that needs to be said now, or can it wait? If it can wait, let it, and maybe it won't be something that needs to be said @ all, and in that case you won't have to remove your foot.

I'm a little hasty in my doing things, I wish I wasn't, but I am. An area I need to work on for sure! I thought that being embarrassed about things that I said/did would have gone away by now, maybe that just shows my immaturity, or maybe I'll just never out grow worrying about what people think of me. Maybe both. So lets raise a glass to opening our mouths and being confident in what we have to say!

  1. oh boy, have I been there before. And no, not immaturity because I consider myself "old" (celebrating my 36th!!! B'day this month - yuck!). I tend to be hasty too -- great advice on the sit and wait on the words. Email is hard enough to receive without hearing tone of voice. I think a lot of people hear the most negative version of what they read (ahem, I mean I do, that is). Here's to growing!

  2. Tell me about it ! I had a whole argument with a friend via txt message the other day which resulted in a 3-week silence from both parts. And since I was the one who started it was extremely hard on my part to reach out and ask for forgiveness( tough i still think i have a point in all that was texted..anyway..lol)
Maybe I could have hold my thoughts a little bit before exploding..oh well..

  3. Its so easy to get caught up in whatever it is that is being said/texted and forget that once you send those words out, theres no getting 'em back. Oh the power of our words! how they have so much kick to 'em
