Philippians 4:8 Fix your thoughts on things what are true, honorable, and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
There sprung up a little chit chat between the ladies of my family this afternoon while the men played a round of golf on this beautiful day late in October in western NY. I don't even know how or why the topic was breached, but this verse is were we landed our focus and attention inside while the young ones played out in the yard, and the men played on the green.
Have you ever read this verse?
Fix your thoughts on what is
True.
Honorable.
Right.
Think about what is
Pure.
Lovely.
Admirable.
Think about things that are
Excellent.
Worthy or Praise.
As a women - as one who loves to worry and stress and focus on what might be instead of what is or what could be - these words stick out to me and are a reminder of what I should be thinking about.
I can conger up all kinds of scenarios in my mind and mull over and over what I should have said or could do.
I dwell on my aggravation, and frustration. I ponder on the things that irritate me to no end.
Why?
I'm not really sure. It gets me no where but a dead end, with lots of wasted time left in its path.
To gain what?
I'm still looking for an answer to that one.
Is it human nature or just my own self destructive ways?
I think its human nature.
So this afternoon while us women of the house sat around and discussed these few words, I did a little reflecting of my own thoughts and what captivates them, and me. We all wrote down these few words on a little note card - mine will be going on the mirror in our bathroom - so that we Do what this verse say, not just read about what we should do. I truely appreciate having these women in my life for these little impromptu sessions of in site and encouragement.
What about you - is there a verse that you keep as your mantra?
Is there a passage that never gets old for you, that can always be applicable in your life?
I'd love to hear about it.
