I had a recent conversation with a lady about this church she goes to called The Well. She started telling me her story of how she found this church and the people there who weren't 'normal' christians. Normal christians to her were hypocritical, stuffy, narrow-minded, and judgmental. She told her story of the realness of those at this church and the acceptance of her as a person and how it really made a positive impact on her. She talked of this new place, a place of community and encouragement. She said it took her a while to first check out a service, but once she did, she was hooked!
There is something HIUGE to be said about how relational community can really impact a person. Its not about who's who, and what great things you've done. It's not about how good you are, or pretend to be. People don't want fake, and imprisonable. People want real, and authentic. People want to see hope. People want to know that they too can have access to something bigger than themselves - God.
I mean really, think about it, would you want to be part of something that is belittling, condescending, and impossible to obtain? No, no one does. To me, Christ and church should be one in the same, open to anyone, no matter what your back ground. Accepting the person and sharing with them what someone shared with you - that God is Loving, Kind, Forgiving, Patient, Understanding, and full of Peace!
I Love hearing about how people came to Christ - I love hearing about good experiences and breaking peoples stereotypes on the church, and christians. Because I love hearing about people giving their lives to Him and being excited about it!
So what about you? How do you show others Gods love, or how have you had a positive experience being shown Gods love? I'd love to hear! We are starting a new church in the Buffalo NY area, if you're interested in being part of something bigger than your self, apart of a community and having a positive influence on others in your area let me know! Also check out Epic Church for more info as well!
