You and I may not have the same definition on this one. Some may be thinking, R&B, classic, 60's. But what I'm talking about is good 'ol country, makes you want to call your family, eat some fried chicken corn bread, and enjoy a nice walk down someplace far away and in the middle of now where. It makes me want to jump on a swing on a big porch - like the on the house from Forest Gump, it takes me back to a place like that. Not that I'm from AL, but I certainly do think of big plantation houses, and warm weather, and the oak trees and salt air. It makes me think of 'home', of growing up - even though it took me until my jr yr in high school to appreciate country music and really start listening to it! - and friends, and places and times from what feels like a whole nother life.
If you've read this blog for a little while - or know me @ all - I'm an avid 'Today Show' watcher! No, I've not been to the show sense we moved here, I should make it down there sometime soon. This morning - and what prompted this little post - Allen Jackson was on and performing a new song of his. It had nothing to do w/ me, I can't even relate to it - its about blue collar workers. But I did enjoy it, as did miss Kaia. She loves almost any kind of music she can dace or clap to - both of which she did w/ this one!
Its raining and nasty today, I already made plans to meet w/ some friends, but I really don't want to go out. Its still kind of dark and everything seems still - here in the apt anyway. But there was something soothing, and comforting about watching and hearing the music, and the way that it speaks to my soul this AM. I hope that Kaia, even growing up here in the city, will appreciate the simplicity of the stories in this music. And maybe even enjoy it later on. . . . Grits anyone?!
BTW - There is only 1 blog now. I don't know what I was thinking, I don't need two! I'm going to have a lot going on in the next few months, why did I think that adding to my list of things was a good idea?! I should be taking things off! So, its just this one. However all the other post from the girls blog I did bring over to this one, so there are some new ones added in case you missed anything : )
