Today, miss Kaia went off w/ a good friend of ours and her boys to the Bronx zoo. Wow! I'm letting my little girl go for the day to the zoo, and I'm not going w/ her, her dads not going, just a freind.
Yes, I trust this friend very much, shes been a wonderful support and great help to us since we found out we were pregnant w/ Olivia. She loves Kaia, and playing w/ her. Denise was the one we called when we went into labor @ 3am to come stay w/ Kaia. We love her to say the least. But today is a little different, she took Kaia, she didn't just come over to give me a break, and play w/ her here. I think this is a mile stone for a little person. The first trip w/o mom and dad, or family. The first trip w/ someone else, w/ a friend. I know shes going to have a great time. From the moment I told her that Denise and the boys where coming to take her to the zoo she stood by the door calling out for her, and waiting - not very patiently! - for her to come. Kaia was SO excited! When they left, Kaia ran out the door she couldn't wait any longer!
So, now what do I do? I do have some errands to run, but Olivia is FIANLLY sleeping and I think I'll take advantage of that while I can . . . I have a big girl now, I have an independant little girl now, who likes to go w/ others and enjoys being away from me. That hurts me a little, but this is what I'm raising her to do, leave the nest one day. There was a time, not so long ago, that she wouldn't have gone w/ anyone other than me. I feel good knowing that I'm doing something right, she feels safe going w/ others that she knows.
Here's to letting go a little!
