Our oldest child, Kaia is 3yrs old. She is full of energy, life and passion. She can be very dramatic - just like her mother - and in her finer moments can throw one heck of a fit. This week has been filled with almost all of the above. More tantrums than I would like, allowing me to use my motherly skills and a lot of grace, and patients
As her mother, by the end of the day I'm done, and ready to get her in bed. We go through her routine
going potty
making sure she has her water
climbing into bed and getting settled.
Then comes one of my favorite times of day - no matter how crazy its gone, no matter how hard of a day its been, no matter how loud or out of control the last fit she just threw was - when its time to say her prayers its instant peace.
Praying is not a new thing to her, she has been saying the blessing at meals for almost six months now. She makes sure they get said.
We were at some friends for a play date a few weeks ago, new friends, and we started eating lunch. Kaia stops, puts her food down and says
'Oh! Mommy! We didn't pray!'
Its so cute, and of course she doesn't want to pray and puts the responsibility on me. I have to come through, its what we do. We bless the food at home and everywhere else, why would we not do it here? She helps me live out what I teach her, she helps me to not care about what others might think.
Back to our bed time routine - last night I didn't say the whole prayer, I said a few things and then let her do it. . . I'm always amazed at what she knows, and that she really does listen to what we say and do. She said a few things I normally say, and then she proceeded to thank Jesus for all her friends - by name! It makes me so proud. It helps boost my confidence as her teacher. It helps me really understand what Jesus was talking about when he welcomed the children. ..
Matthew 19:4
'But Jesus said "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heave belongs to those who are like these children."
NLT
If your not a parent, I think you can still gain so much from this verse. Maybe you work with kids, maybe you don't really like kids, whatever your situation I'd love to know how this verse speaks to you. Because we are all children of God . . . How do you go to Him?

ReplyDeleteThat is so precious! We've been praying as a family with Nia since she was very small and if my husband and she pray without me she gets distressed. It's so cute! After we say amen she claps and says, "Yaaay!" It's amazing how good habits can start so young. Nia already is learning she can go to Him! When it's time for bed she says, "Bible!" and we read a story from her toddler Bible. Makes me so proud!
