Using Our Gifts

The past couple of weeks - about a month now - we have been in a series called Traveling Light. Its biased on Max Lucado's book - which you can find here.

This week the topic - and burden we were never indented to carry - was Envy. Yes, that little word that leavings us wanting So much more than we have. In order to put what he just talked about into practice, our pastor put us on the spot and asked of us give up the shoes on our feet so that they may go to others in need in Haiti.

There is a group from our church going in May and will be taking the shoes with them. This was one of those times where your supper proud to be part of a church that cares and gives to others. There were over 140 pairs of shoes that were donated - 144 people walked out of church with out shoes yesterday! How Amazing is that!? On an ugly rainy, cold day, people put someone else need - some one they have never met - over their comfort. Talk about a powerful sight, seeing people bring their shoes to the front and leave them!

As for the tile of this post - using our gifts - there is an addition to the churches parking lot going in. To watch as people in our church come together and give of their time and resources is so fun to watch. I love that people are using their gifts and talents and time for something bigger than themselves. I love that there is an area for everyone to serve! It doesn't only have to be a Sunday morning thing with the children, or greeting, or singing, or playing an instrument - although all these things are very important too. Not everyone feels comfortable doing those things. We are all called to something, and we have all been given a talent that we are good at, that we can share with others. For some of us its singing, or teaching. For others its fixing, or using heavy equipment.

I love how the body of Christ - the church - is made up of all different types of people who are all good at different things. And how, when we come together, can do amazing things for those around us, and in our community, and in turn, show others a God who loves and cares for them!

What do you enjoy about the church you are in? Are you involved and if so, what area do you enjoy serving in? If your not, I encourage you to get involved in an area you enjoy. There is a spot for everyone, and something for everyone to do! So, get involved and share the love that God's given you to someone one else!

  2. I'm a member of a relatively small church, so I serve in many areas... worship team, Deaconess, nursery worker, bible study teacher... I honestly just feel so fortunate to be able to share my strengths with the church. It so amazing how magical and harmonious the end result is when we all use the talents God has given us to further His kingdom!
